Mass in honour of Saint Vincent De Paul
MASS IN HONOR OF SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL
September 27
Entrance antiphon
(Luke 4) The Spirit of God is upon me; he has anointed me. He sent me to bring good news to the poor, and to heal the broken-
hearted.
Opening prayer
God our Father, you gave Vincent de Paul the courage and holiness of an apostle for the well-being of the poor and the formation of the
clergy. Help us be zealous in continuing his work.
Amen
Liturgy of the word
A reading of James
My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism.
For if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and there also comes in a poor man in dirty clothes, and you pay special attention to the one who is wearing the fine clothes, and say, "You sit here in a good place," and you say to the poor man, "You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool, "have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil motives?
Listen, my beloved brethren: did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?
What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him?
If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?
Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.
Psalm
R. Praise the LORD, O my soul!
I will praise the LORD while I live;
I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. R.
Do not trust in princes,
In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation.
His spirit departs, he returns to the earth;
In that very day his thoughts perish. R.
How blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
Whose hope is in the LORD his God,
Who made heaven and earth,
The sea and all that is in them;
Who keeps faith forever;
Who executes justice for the oppressed;
Who gives food to the hungry. R.
The LORD sets the prisoners free.
The LORD opens the eyes of the blind;
The LORD raises up those who are bowed down;
The LORD loves the righteous;
The LORD protects the strangers;
He supports the fatherless and the widow,
But He thwarts the way of the wicked. R.
The LORD will reign forever,
Your God, O Zion, to all generations. R.
Alleluia.
Alleluia. Alleluia.
I am the way, the truth, and the life, says the Lord; no one comes to the Father, except through me.
Alleluia.

Gospel Matthew 35,31-40
But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne.
All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from
the goats; and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.
Then the King will say to those on His right, “Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world”.
“For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.”
Then the righteous will answer Him, “Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink?” “And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?”
The King will answer and say to them, “Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.”
Communion antiphon
(Ps 106) Give thanks to the Lord for his kindness, for his wonderful deeds toward men. He has filled the hungry with good things, he has satisfied the thirsty.
Prayer after communion
Let us pray.
Lord, hear the prayers of those you have renewed with your sacraments form heaven. May the example and prayers of Saint
Vincent help us to imitate your Son in preaching the good news to the poor.
Amen
